The Niche Vehicle Network has conducted a series of tests into niche vehicle aerodynamics as part of its benchmarking studies which include the Design Guide. The results were very positive and the overarching conclusion by all manufacturers who took part in the study was that; in a relatively short period of time, they could see impressive results. Major gains were achieved in simple modifications and in some cases, it was the first time that a particular product had undergone in FSWT conditions with an experienced aerodynamicist on hand to help steer development. Knowledge was shared and transferred during the sessions.
The report of the 2009 trials is online for members & was presented at the 8th Annual Aerodynamics Conference 2010. Further sessions were held in March-April 2011 with a number of companies taking part, Transport INet also sponsored 8 East Midlands niche companies to undertake sessions in the wind tunnel. See left for the MEV, made in Mansfield and read more about Norton Motorcycles' experience in the wind tunnel on the Norton website.
