Grant Funded R&D Competitions

The Niche Vehicle Network continues to invest in R&D projects focused on the niche and specialist vehicle manufacturing sector.

Sponsored by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), Innovate UK and the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), our competitions are focused on providing SMEs active in the low carbon vehicle technology sector with funding to undertake collaborative research and development activities within the following areas:

1. Proof of Concept Competition provides grants for UK niche vehicle manufacturers and associated design and engineering companies to undertake the research and development of early market low carbon technology demonstration projects, primarily applicable to non-human powered road and off-highway low volume vehicles.

All applications can now only be submitted online through our newly launched Niche Vehicle Network Funding Gateway. This contains full guidance on how to apply, including presentations from the competition workshop, with links to provide specific help if required. Existing members of the Niche Vehicle Network will need to create an account to access the Funding Gateway. You will not be able to sign-in using your existing NVN Members’ credentials. When registering for the Funding Gateway, please make sure that you use the same email address that is used to access the NVN Members area so we can validate your membership.

Applications must be received no later than noon on Monday 3rd June 2019.

2. Production Readiness Competition provides grants for UK SMEs and their supply chain to take existing low carbon vehicle technologies from demonstration through to production readiness in a compressed timescale, leading to significant economic benefits whilst reducing CO2 emissions.

3. The Niche Vehicle Feasibility Competition provides grants for industry-led projects focusing on catalysing innovative low carbon vehicle technologies through the undertaking of initial desk-top research activities.  Eligible projects under this competition are not required to be collaborative.
