THE CHALLENGE

With the growing demand for light electric vehicles across Europe, Edge Mobility set about with the goal of building a low-cost supply chain and assembly line in the UK for compact, rugged motors. The key challenge was to re-engineer both the mechanical and thermal design of the motor for low production and assembly costs.

What did the project do?

Through the project, Edge Mobility carried out the prototyping & assembly process development of its QXS electric motors. This was followed by the design & fabrication of mule vehicles for testing these motors with Brace Technology and the simulation of dynamical vehicle models for generating drive cycle requirements with Xi Engineering.

The result

The key results of the project included motor designs optimised for low production costs, key assembly process developments, demonstrator L-category vehicles and drivetrain testing processes.
