This feasibility study explored safe, reliable and focussed vehicle controllers designed for the L category market.
Project Overview
Muon Tech identified a potential gap in the market for a safe, reliable and focussed vehicle controller for the cost-effective end of the L category market. Our experience with existing customers who had repeated and often very aligned requests for a product to handle all the safety and security critical parts of their product without adding excessive mass, cost or complexity.
Taking this inspiration, and the support from this NVN grant, Muon Tech aimed to understand the more detailed requirements of this project, talk to some potential customers and build an engineering basis for a product for this segment.
Feasibility Study
Muon Tech has been able to demonstrate that there is a strong demand for this product within this sector, and that it is currently not catered for. A strong set of common needs across the customer base has been demonstrated, which aligned with expectations from previous experience.
The production and supply of such a product will be an enabler for a lot of companies within the sector – allowing confidence to develop safe vehicles without adding an uncontainable cost to their design.
Significant Project Outcomes
Muon Tech has achieved a much greater understanding of the potential marketplace for our product. With support from NVN, Muon Tech has been able to develop a set of engineering requirements and documents and understand the relevant legal standard that would be required to be met by this product. Further, they have connected with several potential customers to understand their needs and ensure that these will be catered for in the future product.
Next Steps
Muon Tech has identified key next steps to allow development of our vehicle controller. The technical requirements for the product are understood and Muon Tech are now looking deeper into supply chain options, and more detailed design work to produce prototypes.
Potential funding routes for the project have been identified and are currently being explored in order to enable the project to progress rapidly to a prototyping stage.
NVN Funding
The support from NVN has been instrumental in enabling this project from Muon Tech. The funding has enabled some space to allow for a detailed study of relevant standards, as well as time to understand and hone the requirements of potential customers.
The NVN experience has been extremely supportive for Muon Tech, and instrumental in the progression of this project.
