Project Overview

The bike has four wheels, making it more stable and accessible to a wider audience, and a canopy that provides weather protection so the bike can be used year-round.

For this proof-of-concept project a lightweight concept demonstrator was built, with integrated IoT features that allow it to be monitored remotely.

Technology Developed

Prodrive have developed a novel lightweight aluminium chassis able to meet the abuse and durability requirements, using a combination of welded and bonded joints.

Astheimer have produced a minimal lightweight body that protects mechanical components and occupants in a compact package.

So1o have integrated IoT functionality that allows the bike to be monitored remotely.

Lightweight optimised structures will drive greater range to achieve a more efficient transport solution.

The IoT will allow the bike to be used in the sharing market where we already have registered interest.

Further attention to detail across every component to optimise weight and value for money, with a challenging piece price target.

Significant Project Outcomes

The project set out to achieve a unique, relevant, and desirable proof of concept demonstrator vehicle. This has been achieved by consortium partners collaborating closely to design, engineer and build the first Solo bike.

Prodrive have been responsible for building the lightweight drivetrain & chassis. Astheimer Design have created an aesthetic which is both dynamic, approachable, and weatherproof. So1o have been responsible for integrating the IOT functionality, completing market research and developing the take to market plan.

There is nothing like this product available today, its lightweight structure will allow significant range and performance, whilst the design is durable enough to suit the public sharing market.

Proof of concept has allowed the consortium to create a fully functioning physical prototype to carry potential customers and investors, to evaluate and gain feedback before moving into the next phases of the project, including production readiness.

Commercial Opportunities

Potential customers have been identified and relationships formed, now the PoC concept demonstrator will be used to increase customer demand.

NVN Funding

The NVN funding has helped launch this project, and fast track its roadmap to production, which will allow the consortium to have first mover advantage for this unique product.

The consortium set some very ambitious targets for this project, and they have worked around the clock to deliver an advanced prototype, in a very short time frame. The consortium has worked well together, always going the extra mile to get the job done.

The consortium is enormously grateful to the NVN for their support, and they look forward to developing this project further.
